This painting represents Freund's expressionistic style of 1930's and1940's. Louis Freund [1905-1999] was an accomplished artist and art professor during his lifetime. Freund founded the art department at Little Rock Junior College (present-day University of Arkansas at Little Rock), the Summer Art School of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and served as the Chairman of the Department of Art at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Freund also received Carnegie and Stetson grants to study art history in Mexico and Central America. Louis Freund was married to Elsie Freund [1912-2001], who was also an artist
