The Art of Carl Hancock features approximately 22 sketches and etchings from the museum’s permanent collection and the collection of the artist’s niece, Myrtie Engelkes. Carl Hancock (1898 – 1966) was a self-taught etcher, designer, painter and commercial artist. He sketched many familiar scenes and architectural subjects in and around Little Rock, including the Hinderliter Grog Shop (on the museum’s grounds), the Old State House, the Old Mill and Plantation Road. He also sketched scenes in Memphis, New Orleans and other towns along the southern Mississippi Delta. Hancock was born in Springville, Tennessee, and moved to Arkansas in the early 1900s. He was a long-time resident of North Little Rock.
